Almost all forex brokers these days offer free forex practice trading accounts. Some offer some virtual capital account like $50,000 to start you off. I’m not really sure why they even require a minimum since it’s just all fake anyways. In any case, this is a great way to practice your forex trading skills.
Many new traders start out without using a forex demo first because they are too impatient. They see it as a time waster and they listen to all the voices out there that say it is irrelevant to use a demo account.
These critics rightly say that practice trading is not the same as real trading because it is void of the mental stresses of a real environment. The psychological aspects of trading do tend to be absent when you aren’t using real money, but that doesn’t mean it is worthless.
In fact, practicing first can do you a world of psychological good. If you consistently make money trading on a demo account, you will have a lot more confidence as you roll in with real money. Confidence is a huge competitive advantage, especially when you’re first starting out.
Not practicing just because it’s not like the real thing is like telling NFL teams not to practice because it’s not like the Super Bowl. Of course practice is different, but of course it’s still important.
You will make mistakes as you start out. It is inevitable. That is why they call it being a rookie trader. If you start out as good as an experienced trader, they wouldn’t call it being a rookie. Plus, if you want to go on to do more complex strategies like forex options trading, you need to get the basics down.
If you use a practice demo account first, you will save yourself a lot of money and a lot of heartache up front. It’s a great way to get any glaring flaws out of the way so you can go on to be successful in this market.
