How to Buy a Computer with No Credit Check

February 16, 2010 – 6:38 pm

If you are looking to buy computers no credit check then you need to be very careful to make sure that you are not overpaying for the computer, thus making it harder for you to get back on your feet financially. However, if you do have really bad credit, and don’t have many other options and absolutely need a computer, then there are a few different ways that you can go.

The first, and most common way to buy a computer no credit check is to find a shop that advertises ‘rent to own’ furniture and electronics. While many people only think of these type of shops for couches and TV’s, most of them now days will also carry and offer computers and laptops on a rent to own basis. Generally, the set up will work something like this: you can rent a computer on a monthly basis, and pay around $20-$30 a month, for a certain amount of time. After that time is up, if you have made all of your payments on time then you can take ownership of the computer (hence the name rent to own).

The issues with this type of no credit computer purchase are 1) the total cost that you will pay for the desktop, and 2) the quality of computer available. First, let’s look at the total cost that you will pay. If you purchase a $300 computer it is not unlikely that you will end up spending an actual amount almost double what you would have spent if you bought it upfront with cash or credit card (not taking into account financing fees if you purchased the computer on the credit card and did not pay it off immediately). Obviously, this is not ideal. The second issue – the computer quality – can also be a problem. Generally you will not get the latest and greatest computer (at least not without paying a lot more), so make sure that the computer you rent to own will perform the tasks that you need/want it to.
